Before
you consider applying to the Engineering School for Spring 2013, you should
verify that you have met all of our listed gateway requirements. You will
find these online at http://www.lep.umd.edu/.
The internal application for admission to the Engineering School can be found
online at http://www.eng.umd.edu/advising/transfer. While the application will be
available on December 3, 2012, we urge you not to apply until all of your fall
grades are confirmed, as you only have one opportunity to apply to the
Engineering School. This means that if you do not meet all gateway
criteria at the end of the fall semester, you should not apply to the
Engineering School for the spring.
The Engineering School cannot
issue you any permissions for Engineering classes until you have been
admitted. When it is time to register for the spring semester, you will
still need to be cleared by your current advising college. You can
register for courses that are required for your intended Engineering major, but
open to all students. You will find a curriculum sheet listing
requirements for all of our different majors online at http://eng.umd.edu/advising/degree-plan.
Here is roughly the timeline for
the winter:
- All of your fall grades should
be posted and calculated by January 3rd.
- Applications for the
Engineering School will be due by 5 p.m. on January 8th. (We will make the
application available in early December, but urge you not to apply until you
have verified your fall grades. You can only apply one time to the
Engineering School.)
- Notification from admissions
will occur on January 10th.
- If you are admitted, our office
will contact you by January 15th to let you know we have given you permission
to add introductory ENES courses (such as ENES 100 and 102) to your
schedule. We will also provide you with instructions for meeting with a
departmental advisor to obtain department-specific permissions.
Our associate dean will make
every effort to make room in introductory ENES courses for the new students we
admit in January. If you see these courses start to fill up, please do
not worry, as more seats will be created. While we cannot guarantee you
will get your first choice of time, you will have seats in the courses you
need.
We
understand it is not ideal to still be tweaking your schedule so close to the
start of the spring semester, and that this may be frustrating to you. We
want to assure you that the process is the same for all students and we do not
make exceptions.
