Applying to Engineering and registering for Engineering classes for Spring 2013
Before
you consider applying to the Engineering School for Spring 2013, you should
verify that you have met all of our listed gateway requirements. You will
find these online at http://www.lep.umd.edu/.
The internal application for admission to the Engineering School can be found online at http://www.eng.umd.edu/advising/transfer. While the application will be available on December 3, 2012, we urge you not to apply until all of your fall grades are confirmed, as you only have one opportunity to apply to the Engineering School. This means that if you do not meet all gateway criteria at the end of the fall semester, you should not apply to the Engineering School for the spring.
The Engineering School cannot issue you any permissions for Engineering classes until you have been admitted. When it is time to register for the spring semester, you will still need to be cleared by your current advising college. You can register for courses that are required for your intended Engineering major, but open to all students. You will find a curriculum sheet listing requirements for all of our different majors online at http://eng.umd.edu/advising/degree-plan.
Here is roughly the timeline for the winter:
- All of your fall grades should be posted and calculated by January 3rd.
- Applications for the Engineering School will be due by 5 p.m. on January 8th. (We will make the application available in early December, but urge you not to apply until you have verified your fall grades. You can only apply one time to the Engineering School.)
- Notification from admissions will occur on January 10th.
- If you are admitted, our office will contact you by January 15th to let you know we have given you permission to add introductory ENES courses (such as ENES 100 and 102) to your schedule. We will also provide you with instructions for meeting with a departmental advisor to obtain department-specific permissions.
Our associate dean will make every effort to make room in introductory ENES courses for the new students we admit in January. If you see these courses start to fill up, please do not worry, as more seats will be created. While we cannot guarantee you will get your first choice of time, you will have seats in the courses you need.
We understand it is not ideal to still be tweaking your schedule so close to the start of the spring semester, and that this may be frustrating to you. We want to assure you that the process is the same for all students and we do not make exceptions.

How to request Spring 2013 Keystone seats (ENES 102, ENES 220, ENES 221, ENES 232)
To request a seat in ENES 102, 220, 221, or 232 for Spring 2013, please complete and submit the request form online at https://hsauber.wufoo.com/forms/z7p8z5/.
Non-engineering students requesting permission to register for any ENES course must have a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average at the University of Maryland and a grade of C- or better (or AP credit) for ALL prerequisite classes. If you do not meet these requirements, please do not submit a request.
Please note that seat availability is not guaranteed. Please plan a full schedule for Spring 2013 assuming you will not receive a Keystone seat. If seats are available, you will be notified 1-2 business days prior to the start of the spring semester. From there, registration will be on a first-come, first-served basis.

Are you interested in a seat in BIOE 120 for Spring 2013?
If you are currently not majoring in Bioengineering and would like to take BIOE 120, please email bioe-undergrad@umd.edu to request permission. Please include your name, UID, preferred email address, and current major in your email.
Your name will be placed on an internal wait list in the Bioengineering Department, and you will receive a confirmation email verifying this. The department will start to release permissions to students on this list once they feel their current majors have had the opportunity to register for the course. This date varies, but will be no later than the first day of classes for the spring semester. You will be notified of your permission via e-mail.

Are you interested in taking ENES 100 in Spring 2013?
70 seats in ENES 100 have been set aside specifically for students not majoring in Engineering in Spring 2013. If you are interested in taking this course, please email your request to keystone@umd.edu, and include your name, UID, if you plan to apply to the Engineering School, and if applicable the semester you intend to apply. You need to have completed MATH 140 or be registered to take it this spring to receive permission.
If you qualify, you will be granted permission for ENES 100A. Each section of this course is a subsection of a standard ENES 100 course. Creating a subsection was the best way the registration system could handle us setting aside a certain number of seats for students outside of Engineering.
Please note that just as with any course, being granted permission does not guarantee you a seat. If the section you want is full, you are welcome to add yourself to the wait list.
If you will be applying to the Engineering School for Spring 2013, please do NOT request a seat in ENES 100A. We have held back seats in ENES 100 for our new spring transfers.
